Fantastic Item But Difficult To Find – 7 Inch Mini Netbook Review

I don’t leave home without it! I wanted something to carry while I was touring on the Motorcycle. But, that’s more a problem with the Windows 7 Starter OS, than it is with the hardware. I received this laptop around a week ago and I’m in love with it! Especially since “cloud” computing and Web based applications are more prominent now. I completely wipe the netbook and install Ubuntu Linux (Netbook Remix Edition). Some types push the SD card into a spring and lock. This one just pushes into place with no lock and no click. I was prepared to be underwhelmed, but am pleasantly surprised. I was having a Goldilocks moment – my laptop (also a Toshiba and a great machine) is too big to carry around town or … Read entire article »

Forget The Competition – Windows CE Netbook Critique

Nothing around here compared to the price and features of this netbook so we took a chance and placed the order. It comes with Microsoft Word Starter Edition. This means I need lots of music and when I purchased this laptop I did not realize it didn’t come with a disc drive, but my boyfriend bought me a portable disc drive and I kind of like it better. I get the best of both worlds a small light weight laptop and then when I need it I pull out my disc drive and I’m all set to import my new cd onto my iPod. It also works very well with NETFLIX and the other routine functions (Word Processor, Spreadsheet, Internet of a PC (albeit, not as fast as my desktop … Read entire article »

Mislead By Reviews – Netbook Tablet Review

So watch out for that. I always thought netbooks sucked. This is my first netbook (and first Toshiba) but traveling with a 17″ laptop was just too much trouble. After reading the reviews and comparing specs the Toshiba NB505 looked to be the best and now that I have it, I love it. Why does Microsoft always find a way to make my life miserable?! Starter is worthless–the ads in Microsoft Word take up a good quarter of the already miniscule screen. I uninstalled Norton immediately and downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials. I can live with Windows 7 starter but Office 2010 starter is horrible, the biggest problem being that the right 1/3 of the screen is consumed by ads and you cannot change the settings. Other brands, like Asus, use a less buggy … Read entire article »

Good Product, But Could Be Even Better – 7 Inch Netbook Critique

I’d buy it again if I had the chance. I had very much been wanting a netbook for some time so when my laptop’s hard drive failed, I bought this at the local CompUSA. I had reservations because of the single core processor and 1GB of memory, figured I was going to lose a bit of performance compared to the desktop I use (I7 processor, 6GB memory). But the price was right, I liked the size and my buddy uses one and swears by it. For browsing the internet and watching movies it worked great. Just make sure you adjust the size of the browser text when needed, use the little magnifying glass in the bottom right of screen. It is a perfect size to take along in my purse and is … Read entire article »

This Is The Greatest Out There – Netbook Laptop Critique

My other laptop is not like this. The battery life is great! Windows 7 Live Mail is terrific and can meet all your email needs. I am a photographer and during the AK trip took tons of pictures, downloading them all onto the little Toshiba which didn’t blink once. So, in order to upgrade to 2 GB RAM you need to buy a 2-GB RAM stick and toss away the 1GB RAM stick. Be careful since the screen is easy to break. It’s small, it’s lightweight, it’s relatively durable (I have a two-year old and it has survived her knocking it off the table, tripping over the cord, trying to adjust the angle of the screen and touching it with her sticky fingers). It doesn’t get hot, can sit on … Read entire article »

Do Not Buy This Product – Cheapest Netbook Review

That helped me to make the decision on this netbook. I did a month of research before making my decision. Instead of returning my computer, I just bought a skin, which probably amounted to the same price had I bought the brown netbook but at least I got to choose a really cool design. My Toshiba netbook arrived from Amazon today! I had a little trouble getting this netbook to see the external USB hard drive, and then realized after a lot of poking around, if you have the quick boot option in the bios settings turned on, the netbook will only look to boot from the hard drive or SSD (or LAN I think). In order to boot from an external (USB) device, like for installing another OS, you must … Read entire article »

Cheap Laptops And The Best External Hard Drive Are A Winning Combination.

What can be done with cheap laptops and the best external hard drive would have taken a more powerful machine just a few year back. For a small amount of money you can get a machine that handles email, word processing, audio and video and most of what you would need from a portable computer. The addition of an external hard drive though would let you take your collection of files where you go as well as being able to back up your laptop. When you go shopping for a new laptop sit down and think about what you want to use the laptop for. If it is for email and word processing you may not need that much in a machine.
